I read a quote that stayed with me, "an expert was once a beginner". Unless we begin, we would not learn and we will not improve. We need determination and practice to excel.

I like the way this focuses on the part of learning that people usually don't show—the awkward first attempts, mistakes, and not knowing what you're doing yet. The comparison with people who are already good at something also feels very real, because we usually see their polished result, not the hundred messy attempts that came before it. Being a beginner can feel uncomfortable, but honestly, everyone you admire at something was once that person who had no idea what they were doing. The line about starting from zero really sums it up—there's nothing embarrassing about being new at something.
