People pleasing

I often take decisions which are to please other people, even though that might not be something that I truly want.

Yesterday my house help who is a bit younger than me asked me to go to Mela with her.

I agreed, I really wanted to go, and there had been ages since I went to one of those.

So in the late evening she called and I told her okay I'd come, but when I got ready, my grandmother said what is the necessity to go at this late hour. Even my father told that it's not a very good place, who knows what kind of people will come, there's a slum near that.

Hearing all this, I also thought that maybe I should refrain, and I called her and told, I can't come.

But now I'm feeling so guilty, I had told her that I would come. Later she had to go with her mother, I thought her other friends will be there but I didn't know she only planned to go with me.

And I cancelled.

I'm feeling so guilty. Not only I disappointed her, I disappointed myself.

I should do what I truly want to do rather than to impress parents or grandparents.

I will listen to my heart from now on.

No people pleasing.

What is something you got wrong recently — and what did it quietly teach you?

Your dad and grandmother told you to stay away because they were worried about your safety. You do not need to feel guilty. Additionally you need to start thinking about yourself instead of pleasing others.
