September

September

September doesn't announce itself with fanfare. It sneaks in through half-open windows, carrying the scent of rain and the promise of cooler nights. The weather can't seem to decide what it wants to be, warm one moment, chilly the next, interrupted by rain that's gentle enough to be called pretty rather than annoying. It's indecisive, like everything else this month seems to be.

The trees know better. They've already made their decision. Leaves drift down like they're in no rush to hit the ground, falling in slow motion, painting the world in shades of gold and brown. There's something melancholic about watching trees shed, the season's way of saying goodbye to abundance and settling into bare minimalism.

Then come the mid sems. The late-night study sessions that steal your nights and give you back the days in exchange. Your sleep schedule inverts. The world sleeps while you're awake, hunched over notes and case laws, the glow of your screen the only light in a 3 AM silence that feels both lonely and strangely peaceful. You sleep when the sun is high, when the world is bustling outside, and wake as dusk settles in. It's a vampire's existence, but one you've agreed to, at least for this month.

Laziness peaks in September. Not the laziness of contentment, but the exhaustion of transition. Your body hasn't adjusted to the new schedule. Your mind rebels against the shift from summer ease to semester intensity. Everything feels slow, heavy, difficult and even simple tasks feel like climbing a mountain. You move through days in a fog, knowing you should do more, care more, but finding that motivation is a luxury you've misplaced somewhere between summer and now.

But then there's the wind.

The wind in September is criminally underrated. It's not violent or harsh. It's just... pretty. It moves through the trees, rustling the leaves that are already halfway to falling. It carries the scent of rain and earth and something like possibility. It catches your hair, your dupatta, your hoodie strings, and for a moment, just for a moment ,the laziness lifts. The wind reminds you that beauty exists even in the messiness, even in the late-night exhaustion, even when you're caught between seasons.

September is contradictory. It's beautiful and melancholic, lazy and demanding, warm and cold, shedding and beginning. It asks everything of you while you're running on empty, yet somehow, the wind makes it bearable.

Maybe even worth it.
