It was 6 pm almost in the evening and I was just standing in the balcony, and suddenly there was a loud warning.... coming straight from kitchen, it was by my mother, she said "why are you standing in the balcony, who are you trying to impress?" these kind of words really triggered me to another level. But I couldn't say anything, not because I was a coward or I did not have any come back, but because I thought that I should not say anything disrespectful to my mother. "Respect your elders!" they said, "that is what good girls are supposed to do!" Yes, that is what they always taught me. They never told me why, is it because they are elders or is it because they are habitual to this fake respect game since the beginning. By "fake respect" I mean to talk about the practice of giving respect to who don't deserve it just because they happen to be elders, I never really understood this rule, there many such things that I did not understand at the time, for example:- why was I considered responsible if someone ( a creepy guy) is looking at me and not the other person. I did not get why, I was blamed if I was wearing short clothes in front of my relatives and was called characterless just for that. Seriously being a girl is really difficult in this world. I was fully immersed in my thoughts when my mumma's voice interrupted them, she came from the kitchen and told me to sit in the living room instead of standing in the balcony "for my own safety" well I did what she said like a 'good' girl and sat on the sofa, back in to my own world ( in my thoughts), just then my brother came back from his daily stroll, and casually announced that he was going to go out again after dinner, I sighed thinking that he will get scolded but to my surprise no one said anything to him, that is when I realised that all the rules, all the restrictions were just for me, and for my brother it was always a free land. I understood that I will have to rebel my way to get what I want. I did not ask for much, I just want some freedom from these not so basic differences. Was it too much to ask?
I think not!

When you realize you're being treated unfairly because of your gender, should you

There’s something really beautiful about old architecture like this. It doesn’t need to be grand or heavily decorated to stand out—the little details in the arches, balcony, walls and even the way the evening light falls on it give it so much character. Modern buildings can be beautiful too, but older spaces somehow feel like they have a story attached to them, even when we know nothing about the people who lived there. This picture has that quiet, nostalgic feeling of a place that has simply been standing there while generations of people came and went. 🤍
