The accounts from both the senior HR manager and Sujit where equally scary. I was literally on the verge of submitting my resignation for the fear of the spirit that dwelt at my office. But then I got the good news. Our office was shifting to a new building and that was supposed to happen within a span of a month. That definitely was a sigh of relief. I decided to not submit my resignation and wait for the office to move to the new building. And thankfully the new building was not haunted.
Few years later I had been to one of my distant uncle's house. Uncle used to work with the police department and used to be posted in the same area where my previous (haunted) office was. We had been casually talking about his complicated cases during his career and he mentioned one incident that brought back all the memories.
Uncle said, "that was a troublesome area. Law enforcement was almost impossible there. The area was inhabited by indigenous tribes, construction workers, and some criminals. I must say indigenous tribes were very peaceful. They never troubled anyone. Construction workers too mostly had not been too notorious. Most crimes that would occur among the construction workers were quarrelling and fighting. Mostly those were the result of their heavy drinking. They would work during the day and drink heavily in the evening. After drinking even a small argument would lead to a fist fight. In the inabriated state they would still come to the police station and report the crime. Most of the times they would forget everything that had happened the previous night and later would come to the police station to take back the complaint. But the criminals in that area were notorious and would commit heinous crimes. One crime that I vividly remember but unfortunately nobody was ready to come forward".
From uncle's voice I knew he was going to tell me a chilling story from his own experience. I was all ears. Uncle continued with his story, "it was a dark winter night. Most of the people had stayed of the streets because of the chill in the air. But one of the crimelords decided to assert his dominance in the area. He went to the area where the indigenous tribal community had been staying. He saw that a man was sleeping outside his home. He decided to beat the man to his death. The man bled so much that he lost his life due to the blood loss as a result of the injuries. Then he set the man's hut on fire. Unfortunately a woman was sleeping inside that hut. As the door was closed she was unable to escape. Other witnesses from that area said that they saw the woman covered entirely in fire from head to toe ran outside for help. Other people tried to help her but by that time she was already dead. Unfortunately this crime was not reported because nobody wanted to be in the bad books of such a criminal. Despite knowing everything no case was registered and the family could not get justice".
Uncle stopped before telling me the most chilling detail, "it happened exactly where your previous office was".
Now I was able to connect the dots. I understood the history of the mysterious event that occurred at the previous office. Maybe the spirit was not evil afterall and only wanted us to know her story. Unfortunately till date she had not received justice for the crimes committed against her.
After knowing the story all I pray is for the innocent lives lost. May the departed soul find peace.
- The end -
Knowing your office building might be haunted by a spirit seeking justice, would you
