The forest had gone quiet.

Ethan stood beside the rusted chest, the cracked black stone resting heavily in his palm.

Jake looked at him.

“So this is what she wanted us to find?”

Ethan looked down at the stone.

“I don't think she wanted us to find it.”

“Then what?”

Ethan looked toward the dark trees.

“I think she wanted me to find it.”

A cold breeze passed between them.

The notebook lying on the ground suddenly opened by itself.

A new line appeared.

WHERE IT BEGAN, THE TRUTH WAITS.

Jake stared at the page.

“That's not exactly helpful.”

Ethan picked up the notebook.

“Look around.”

The strange symbols they had been following were carved into the trees.

One after another.

Leading deeper into the forest.

Jake sighed.

“Of course.”

They followed the symbols.

The forest became darker as they moved forward. The trees grew thicker, and the fog covered the ground like a thin layer of smoke.

Neither of them spoke.

Then Ethan stopped.

Ahead of them stood an old stone structure almost completely covered by roots.

Jake raised his flashlight.

“What is that?”

Ethan stepped closer.

Above the entrance was the same symbol they had seen throughout the forest.

And beneath it was a name.

ELARA VALE.

Ethan stared at it.

His heartbeat quickened.

“This is where it happened.”

Jake looked at him.

“You sure?”

Ethan nodded.

“I don't know how…”

He touched the name.

“But I know.”

They entered the chamber.

The walls were covered with faded drawings.

A woman.

A ritual circle.

Several people standing around it.

And finally—

the same woman standing alone.

But something was different about the last drawing.

Her face had been scratched away.

Jake moved his flashlight across the wall.

“There are words here.”

Ethan came closer.

Jake read them slowly.

ELARA VALE

BORN INTO THE BLOODLINE

THE ONE WHO SOUGHT POWER

THE ONE WHO BECAME THE CURSE

Ethan stared at the words.

“She was one of them.”

Jake looked at him.

“One of your ancestors.”

Ethan nodded.

The black stone suddenly became warm.

The notebook slipped from his hand.

Its pages turned rapidly before stopping.

A new passage appeared.

Elara was once human.

She belonged to the family whose blood still runs through Ethan.

She entered Blackwood Forest seeking something forbidden.

She performed a ritual that should never have been completed.

The ritual changed her.

Her body remained, but what lived inside her was no longer human.

Jake stepped back.

“So the entity…”

“Was Elara.”

Ethan looked at the scratched-out face on the wall.

“And she's been here ever since.”

A woman's voice came from somewhere inside the chamber.

“No.”

Both boys froze.

The voice came again.

“I have been waiting.”

Ethan slowly turned.

At the far end of the chamber stood a tall figure.

Its body was barely visible through the darkness.

Its face remained hidden beneath the shadow.

Jake whispered,

“Don't answer her.”

Ethan didn't.

The figure moved one step forward.

“You came back.”

Ethan frowned.

“I've never been here.”

A quiet laugh echoed through the chamber.

“Your blood has.”

The black stone trembled in Ethan's hand.

Images suddenly flashed through his mind.

An old woman standing inside a ritual circle.

Black candles.

A group of frightened family members.

A young woman running through the forest with a child in her arms.

And Elara—

standing behind them.

Watching.

Ethan opened his eyes.

Jake caught his shoulder.

“What did you see?”

“My family.”

He looked toward the figure.

“She killed them.”

The entity remained still.

“They betrayed me.”

Ethan's expression hardened.

“You chose this.”

The figure tilted its head.

“I chose power.”

Her voice became colder.

“And power chose me.”

The chamber shook.

Dust fell from the ceiling.

Jake looked at the black stone.

“Ethan, whatever happened back then, this stone is connected to her.”

The notebook opened again.

A new sentence appeared.

SHE CANNOT BE DESTROYED WHILE THE RITUAL REMAINS COMPLETE.

Ethan looked at the stone.

“So we reverse it.”

Jake nodded.

“Then let's do it.”

But the entity suddenly screamed.

The candles around the chamber went out.

Darkness swallowed everything.

Jake grabbed Ethan's arm.

“Ethan!”

“I’m here!”

Something moved through the darkness.

A whisper passed beside Ethan's ear.

“You cannot erase your own blood.”

Ethan stepped back.

The black stone slipped from his hand.

It hit the floor.

A crack spread across the stone platform beneath it.

The entire chamber began to shake.

Jake picked up the stone.

“We have to put it back.”

“Where?”

Jake pointed toward the center of the ritual circle.

A small hollow had appeared in the stone floor.

It was the exact shape of the black stone.

Ethan took it from Jake.

The entity appeared at the edge of the circle.

Closer now.

Still faceless.

Still hidden.

But its presence filled the entire chamber.

“Ethan.”

He looked at her.

“You are the last of my blood.”

Ethan's grip tightened around the stone.

“No.”

The entity paused.

“I am the end of it.”

He placed the stone into the center of the circle.

The symbol beneath it began to glow.

The entity screamed.

The walls trembled.

Jake grabbed the notebook and searched through the pages.

“There has to be something else!”

Ethan looked at the ancient symbols around the circle.

Then he saw it.

One symbol had been turned upside down.

He remembered the notebook.

THE OLD RITUAL MUST BE REVERSED.

Ethan turned the symbol back.

The light spread across the entire chamber.

The entity stepped backward.

For the first time, her voice sounded afraid.

“Stop.”

Ethan looked at her.

“You wanted me here.”

The shadow around her began to break apart.

“Then finish what your family started.”

The light became brighter.

The entity disappeared into the darkness.

Then—

everything stopped.

The candles went out.

The forest became silent.

Jake slowly lowered the notebook.

“Is she gone?”

Ethan looked at the black stone.

Its cracks had disappeared.

“I think so.”

They stood there for a moment.

Then Ethan noticed something written on the wall.

A sentence that hadn't been there before.

THE CURSE IS BROKEN.

Jake smiled slightly.

“We actually did it.”

Ethan didn't smile.

Because beneath those words, another sentence was slowly appearing.

BUT FEAR NEVER DIES.

Ethan stared at it.

From somewhere deep inside the forest came a faint whisper.

Not Elara's voice.

Not Jake's.

Not his grandmother's.

A voice he had never heard before.

“Ethan…”

He turned.

Nothing.

Only darkness.

Jake looked at him.

“What is it?”

Ethan slowly shook his head.

“Nothing.”

They left the chamber.

Outside, the sky was beginning to turn grey.

Dawn was coming.

They had survived the night.

But as Ethan walked away, the black stone inside the chamber cracked once more.

And from beneath the broken stone—

something opened its eyes.
