Chapter 1

Am I a burden?

Am I a burden?

I am a teen, who mostly feels left out and lonely even being surrounded by people.
Being in your teenage, the age where children mostly need their parents to understand them, listen their openions, express themselves, feel safe around them emotionally. But unfortunately, in India even in the date of 2026, many parents and family members do not understand this basic concept.

Teenage is the age in which words and actions affect the child's mind most than upbringing!

Let's take my personal example now.
I am a girl in India.. Yes, here's where everything starts from.

My parents loved me very much, cared for me every single time, I am the elder child of my parents, elder even in my family.
My parents fullfilled my every single demand, rather it may be something foolish or desirable.
My parents were and are always there for me Financially and Practically, unfortunately I can't say Emotionally 🙂.

I know that my parents struggled alot in their prime, still they managed to give me everything, from education to love care money makeup vehicle phone like every single thing.

But their providing nature can't hide the toxic behaviour behind the curtains!

Just because someone suffered in their prime and still managed to provide, doesn't have the right to harm anyone emotionally!

Almost every brown household has the same issue.
Parents do provide financially but forget to be there emotionally, and then they'll ask, " Why aren't you like other daughters/sons, why are you so detached?? ".
- Like, you guys literally made us this way....

Being a 19 year old now, I mostly feels exhausted and a way more angry at my home in my parents presence rather than out somewhere surrounded by silly people.
I sometimes even feel guilty for feeling this way, but then I turn back to those initial teenage days, where my younger version needed emotional support but my safe place people were busy criticising her on her mistakes.

You may also wonder sometimes right?
Why do I feel more angry at home??
The answer is:
Parents are actually our safe place!
How????
I know, I know...
Some parents are actually a way too more toxic, excluding that types, I am talking about parents like who will give their every single thing for you, you actually matter to them, but the same people will criticise you in front of everyone, trigger your insecurity in front of everyone...

And the answer explanation, that our parents are actually our safe place...
I will give it in the next chapter!
Till that, please do share your experience and also tell me whether you relate or not!
