Oliver Oken is another interesting character on Hannah Montana that needs a chapter of its own.

Olivar is the male best friend to Miley and Lilly. He had been Lilly' childhood friend who later becomes her love interest. He met Miley in the 6th grade and has been her closest guy friend ever since. He lives with his mother who works as a police officer, his father is over protective, and has a younger brother.

Before knowing who Miley is, he is an overly enthusiastic Hannah Montana fan. He would say that he treats her as a goddess and worships her. He secretly stalks Hannah and dreams of marrying her one day. When Miley reveals her identity as Hannah Montana, he faints, which is a running joke on the show. However, he has never had any romantic feelings for Miley. After knowing the truth, his obsession towards Hannah dies yet he remains close personal friends with Miley. Just like most characters, he too assumes a srcret identity, Mike Standley III while attending events with Hannah Montana in order to keep Miley's secret. Lilly helps Oliver come up with the disguise which consists of a fake goatee, aviator sunglasses, shorts and a zip-up hoodie. Oliver thinks of the name "Mike Standley III", being inspired by a nearby mic stand.

Oliver's romantic relationships is another running gig on the show. All of his girlfriends meet disapproval from Miley and Lilly.

To me Oliver appeared to be a relatable character. He was shown to be a shy and coy teenager. His closeness to Lilly and Miley shows how strong and deep their friendship was. Also, whenever I saw Oliver on the screen, I could see the similarity between him and a lot of my friends.

Another aspect that I found relatable was his celebrity worship. He adored Hannah but as soon as he learnt that she was Miley, his affection frizzled. Something similar had happened to me in my childhood. I used to like an artist and later found out that I was related to them. That was the exact moment my affection towards them dissolved. This is why I found him to be relatable.

Also, Oliver was shown to be Type I diabetic. Through his character, the show runners tried to show the life and difficulty of a Type I diabetic, however at multiple instances they failed to express the awareness and sensitivity towards the topic. At least, that started a discussion around the ailment.

Oliver's character was more than comic relief. His goofiness was what made him special. Sometimes he would feel that he was stuck between a friendship and romantic relationships.

Oliver remains a character that brings a fresh and unique flair to the show. Let me know what you thought about Oliver.
