Have you ever been in a situation where someone explains something to you, and you understand absolutely nothing, but your head keeps nodding like you’re attending an international conference?Because honestly, I deserve an award for my ability to look intelligent while my brain is fighting for its life.
Someone could explain the most complicated instructions to me, and I’ll respond with, “Yeah, yeah, got it!” with the confidence of a NASA scientist. Meanwhile, inside my head, there are
approximately seventeen question marks, three confused squirrels, and absolutely no useful information. The worst part is when someone asks, “Did you understand?”
Now, what am I supposed to say? “Actually, no. Your explanation entered through one ear, took a sightseeing tour, and disappeared somewhere near my left shoulder”?
Of course not. I say, “Yes, absolutely!”And then comes the dreaded question: “So, can you explain what you have to do?”EXCUSE ME? WHY ARE WE HAVING A POP QUIZ?
Suddenly, I become fascinated by the ceiling, my shoes, the nearest window, literally anything that can save me from making eye contact.Sometimes, I even repeat the last few wordsthey said, hoping it will create the illusion of understanding.“So basically, you want me to organise everything before submitting it?”“Exactly!”
WHAT EXACTLY? I JUST REPEATED YOUR SENTENCE!And don’t even get me started on online tutorials. I’ll watch a ten-minute video, understand everything perfectly, feel like a
genius, and then open the actual application only to realise I have no idea what I’m doing.Apparently, watching someone else perform a task and performing it yourself are two completely different academic qualifications. But I’ve discovered one universal survival technique: asking someone to explain it again, preferably using simpler words and
approximately 40% fewer complicated terms. So, if you ever see me nodding enthusiastically during an explanation, please don’t assume I’m intelligent. There’s a very real possibility that
I’m simply trying to look employed while my brain desperately searches for a loading symbol.Thank you for attending my presentation. I hope you understood it. Because I certainly didn’t.
At this point, I think my greatest professional skill is confidently surviving situations I have absolutely no business being in. If confusion were a career, I'd be CEO by now. My only request is that people stop saying, "It's very simple." Nothing good has ever followed those words. Anyway, I'll just keep nodding, smiling, and hoping someone eventually sends the instructions in a language my brain actually understands.

I have realised that for everything I need written instructions. When anybody explains to me verbally, my brain decides to go offline 😭
