The Part I Never Told Anyone

There’s a version of the story everyone knows.
And then there’s the version I never told.
People saw the distance.
They saw me stop talking to someone I used to be incredibly close to. They noticed the unfollow, the silence, the awkwardness whenever their name came up.
Some assumed we had a stupid fight.
Some thought we simply grew apart.
I never corrected them.
Because explaining what really happened would mean opening a door I worked very hard to keep closed.
The strange thing is, nothing dramatic happened that day.
There was no huge argument.
No final goodbye.
Just one conversation.
One sentence that changed the way I looked at everything that came before it.
I remember sitting there afterward, staring at my phone, reading the same message again and again.
I wanted to reply.
I typed something.
Deleted it.
Typed again.
Deleted that too.
Eventually, I put my phone away and decided that silence would be easier than explaining how deeply those words had affected me.
The next morning, everything looked normal.
People laughed.
Classes continued.
Messages arrived.
Life moved forward.
But something between us had already ended.
And maybe that's why nobody understood.
How could something disappear without a fight?
How could two people go from knowing everything about each other to acting like strangers?
I still don't know if I made the right decision.
Maybe one day I'll tell the whole story.
But not today.
For now, everyone can keep believing whatever they want.
Because sometimes the truth isn't difficult to tell.
It's difficult to survive telling it.
And honestly…
would you rather know the truth, or keep the version that hurts less?
