I woke up today with a very ambitious plan: to become a better version of myself.Unfortunately, the previous version of me refused to resign.
I started my morning with positive affirmations. "I am confident. I am capable. I am unstoppable."Five minutes later, I was staring at the ceiling wondering whether I had sounded rude to someone three years ago.
Excellent progress. Truly inspirational.I decided to practise mindfulness. The idea was simple: live in the present moment. But my brain had other plans.
It brought up an embarrassing memory from 2019, reminded me of an unfinished assignment, questioned my career choices, and randomly played a conversation that happened yesterday.
Apparently, my brain operates like Netflix. There is always another episode, and none of them can be skipped. Then came the productivity phase.
I opened my laptop, made a beautiful to-do list, selected an aesthetic font, arranged everything by priority and added little checkboxes.
I felt extremely organised. Then I took a break because organising the list was exhausting.By lunchtime, I had accomplished three things:
Drank water.Changed my sitting position approximately seventeen times.Thought about becoming a morning person.
The third one was particularly challenging because I don't even enjoy mornings. I just enjoy the idea of being someone who wakes up at 5 AM, drinks warm water, exercises, reads a book and watches the sunrise.
In reality, if someone speaks to me before breakfast, they are participating in a dangerous social experiment.Later, I decided to improve my social skills.I replied to someone's message with "Haha."
Then I spent twenty minutes wondering whether it sounded genuine, sarcastic, boring, or emotionally unavailable.I considered sending another message to clarify.
Thankfully, common sense arrived just in time and reminded me that nobody was conducting a PhD on my punctuation.Evening arrived, and I decided to reward myself for surviving such a demanding day.
I made coffee, sat comfortably and opened my favourite entertainment app.One hour later, I was watching videos about how to become disciplined. The irony was not lost on me.
Before sleeping, I reviewed my day like a strict corporate manager."Could have done better. Needs improvement. Poor time management. Excessive screen usage."I almost gave myself a performance improvement plan. But then I realised something important.Maybe I don't need to turn every single day into a personal development project. Maybe some days are allowed to be wonderfully unproductive.
Maybe I can eat snacks without calculating their nutritional value, laugh at stupid jokes without analysing my behaviour and enjoy a random Tuesday without making it part of my five-year plan.
Tomorrow, I will try again.Or perhaps the day after tomorrow.Let's not put unnecessary pressure on the management team.
Until next time, stay hydrated, stay confused, and please stop treating your brain like an unpaid intern who works 24/7.
